1. What is the Belize Credit Union League?

BCUL is the umbrella organization for all credit unions in Belize. It was established to promote cooperation, provide training, advocate for credit unions, and strengthen the financial cooperative movement nationwide.

There are currently 8 active credit unions under BCUL, serving over 160,000 members and managing more than BZ$1 billion in assets.

BCUL offers:

  • Training and education for credit unions staff and boards
  • Advocacy and representation at national and international levels
  • Shared Services Network (SSN) for digital transactions
  • Belize Credit Union Assurance Services (BCUAS) for insuring members         savings and loans
  • Financial literacy and community development programs

SSN is a secure digital platform that allows credit unions to process transactions efficiently through Belize’s Automated Payment and Securities Settlement System (APSSS). It helps modernize financial services for members.

Belize Credit Union Assurance Services is an organization connected to Belize’s credit union system that offers assurance or insurance-related services. Its purpose is to support credit unions and their members by providing loans and savings protection. 

No, BCUL does not provide financial services directly to individuals. These services are offered by member credit unions. BCUL focuses on support, advocacy, and development for credit unions.

BCUL works to ensure that all Belizeans have access to affordable financial services by strengthening credit unions, promoting digital banking, and offering educational programs.
